The Story Behind Rennie Tool Company
Rennie Tool Company was formed in 1929 by John Barrack Rennie as a manufacturer of lathe tooling. That said, he soon became much more than your standard manufacturer, as he set the British standard for flash butt welded tools with his tool shape designs.
Since the company was established in 1929, it naturally had to endure World War II. In fact, throughout the Second World War, the factory was running 24 hours a day to provide tooling for armament and vehicle manufacturing. During this time, upwards of 500 people were working in the factory!
Once World War II drew to a close, Rennie started to manufacture tungsten carbide tooling, placing it as a major supplier to aircraft, automotive, and subcontract engineering companies. In fact, the late 1960s saw the company sell insert tooling from major manufacturers in Austria, Sweden, the USA, Israel, Germany, and Japan.
In recent years, the fourth generation John Rennie has successfully led the expedition into more general engineering and DIY markets via internet exposure. He was on a mission to provide quality, affordable tool bits that are compatible with leading brand tools after noticing that retailers predominantly stocked leading brand tool bits. This meant that consumers had no choice but to shell out a considerable amount of money for the tool bits they needed.
